We bought our coop from a somewhat local, recreational builder and built the run. We trenched/aproned with hardware cloth and finished with chicken wire. The ground in the run is gravel, covered with landscape fabric and then sand.

The girls moved in yesterday after many smelly weeks in the basement! They spent the day exploring the run and the area under the coop. A couple were even coaxed into the coop where they napped and generally did chicken things. Anyway, the problem is that, as far as I can tell, today they never left the coop. It's been a little chilly, but I would think they'd want to get out.

Is this normal?

Food, water, warm sunshine, nap..... (don't really know if it is normal for your girls. Mine are out and about first thing in the morning, wanting to hit the yard as soon as the dogs have been out to potty and gone back in. After an hour or so it is time to do some dustbath type activities followed by a nap, lately on the ground in the shade, since it's getting hot.
