I had to share, finally, a photo of our coop in progress. My wonderful husband is making us a beautiful coop (5X8). We still have quite a few odds and ends to do on it like windows, chicken door, staining, nest boxes, roosts... (and have to have warm weather to stain the inside b4 chickens can occupy it). I'll try to post photos of the inside when complete. Our 6 adorable pullets (already 4 mos. old!) are living in the run (20'X8')with a plastic playhouse as a makeshift henhouse

We plan to order 11 more chicks in the spring.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have submitted photos here as well as everyone who responded to my requests for advice. You have all been such a great source of information and encouragement. Chickens are AWESOME!

WHat a great set up. I see you have yours tucked into a wooded area. I was wondering if that was ok to do with my own. We have our coop but still need to paint it and build the run. I was thinking that it would be nice for the coop to be in the shade for those hot summer months.

Before you build those nest boxes, you may want to take a look at the modular ones I designed and built. You could just cut holes in the sides of the coup and slide them in place.

I detailed some instructions on another post and I added more pictures at yet another, but start at my web site and let me know if you want more info.

That's GORGEOUS!

Yep, it's okay to put your coop near the trees, however, you want to make SURE to bury your fencing, because more critters will be attracted since it's close the trees.

DH and I built a new chicken run near a tree...and we ran into numerous HUGE roots. So, the run is oddly shaped, but I don't think the chickens will mind!
