Our covered chicken run is about done!

WOW.... That is impressive workmanship there.. I can see all the details at every turn.
You better hope the chickens don't decide to lock you out:D.. It's animal proof, that's for sure!

I was a builder by trade, can't afford the time, money to do that fine a job. Now I feel pitiful.. I'm building my first coop and run out of scrap barn material(On a smaller scale)..lol

Congrats, I'm very jealous:p

It has rained off and on since we put the chicks out Saturday, the first evening it poured and we had 30 MPH wind so we put a 16 ft tarp on the front and plastic on the back side. We need guttering the heavy rain washed the wire to the top of the ground !

They seem pretty happy in their new space and spend time digging, scratching running and tryin out their wings!

I was afraid the perch rungs were spaced too far apart but they have been loaded top to bottom.

Im about ready to start on the coop there is enough metal left for the roof but not the sides.
I was thinking about a 8 or 10 x 12 coop, my thought was to extend the run and build the coop on the end but since I dont have the metal for the sides I think it will be detached?
I'm still trying to figure how big to make the coop for 25-30 birds (33 right now) with the coop and covered run together and always open I'm not sure the coop has to be that big? The run is secure enough that I wont be locking them up in the coop at night and being covered and half enclosed the run will sorta be like part of the coop.
And the budget for the coop isnt much right now so it's gonna be a slow process, as long as I get it done before the end of Aug when they will start laying.
There are so many great coop ideals here that I'm still thinking and looking at different designs ?

Only one thought other than wow!!!!!!!!!

put some small guage hardware cloth around the bottom 2 feet or so. The racoons will pull the little ones or big ones heads through that size wire and leave the rest inside. It would be horrible after so much beautiful work to lose one like that.

Again BEAUTIFUL Gloria Jean
