Well after getting 32 new chicks March 7th we knew our little fenced in area wasn't gonna work and we had critters get our chickens last year!
So I started to plan out a new run and wanted it covered.
But the shock of what the materials were gonna cost came in to play and was way more then we could afford.
Then we were lucky to get used metal and 2x8's free from a boat dock demo and used as much recycled stuff as possible.
What started out to be a quick project turned in to 5 weeks work, ah, so far?
For some strange reason everyone keeps reminding me I have chickens? when they look at my run they say "Bob there just chickens" ?
Anyway this is where it all started, the run will be 10 X 32 or 320 square feet.
Covering the roof, the metal was mixed colors and took two coats of paint to match the other barn.
I didnt know the ground was so out of level so we got a load of fill, another expense we didnt count on.
The blue barn will be tore down soon the bottom is rotted off all the way around and the roof is falling threw, lumber for a new coop!
5 ft 2x4 welded wire covers the sides, buried wire around the whole run to keep out the digging vermin that got our last birds!

I cut the longer scrap metal to make trim and bent it with hand tools.
Even though we went way over our budget were pretty happy with the covered run and I dont think we have to worry about vermin getting our chickens this year.
Now that the run is about done were planning to build a coop with outside nest access for easy egg gathering.
Why dont we just buy eggs?
