Our DIY Chicken Coop

My nest boxes are storage bins from Lowe's. The bigger black ones... I think they were around $10 each when we bought them several years ago. They have held up great, and are so easy to clean. They also have cutouts in the rim to stack them, which you could easily convert to being used to hang them on the chainlink.

That is so CUTE!! I JUST LOVE THIS IDEA...

You could also just put an old dog house in the enclosed area. That's what I started with and then I got time to fancy it up a bit, mainly for my grandchildren though. Got my dog house from C.L. for 40 bucks and did a remodel.
OOPS.... LOL... I am a newbie and apparently replied to the entire post before I realized ... This is soooo cute ! And I love the idea , its adorable.

Can any of you guys suggest any sites that have free plans for chicken coops? and if so do any of you have any suggestions on what to do/what not to do when building your own coop? And before anyone posts it I know "don't hit your finger with the hammer!". LOL

depends how big you want it, I am sure the local big box lumbar yard has plans for sheds/playhouses and can calculate how much lumber paint and misc. supplies you need and make adjustments to their standardized plans for extra windows for light and ventilation. what little extra you would need is nesting boxes and roosts, there are examples on here and can be easily figued out for dementions and materials. Also they may have plans for rabbit hutches that could be slightly altered for a smaller coop.

DrumLogic, have you checked out the Coops tab at the top of the page? There are alot of good ideas on there for just about any size/style of coop that you could want. Maybe not plans per say, but usually enough detail to get you going.

My advice: Decide what size you want and double it!!
