Our Family Tree

Your Joseph and my Jacob were brothers. Now that is interesting! My Jacob was one of the youngest children of George and Katherine.

Oh no, you posted before me!

Edited to put in a more family friendly word!!!

I've been looking at some 2008 posts about the "royal link". Can't seem to find any newer stuff but would love to find out if anyone else has confirmed or dismissed.

Ok, I'm now feeling better that the first cousin I have found on here is also a Taft. I was clinging to President Taft as a "relative". Good thing I look fantastic in green.

Oh no, just realised that I am also sharing my Vice-President.

Edited to Add: I'm blaming my distinct lack of reading comprehension on having brain mush.

My older sister is the historian of the newer generation in our family. Our aunts really did all the research and we have really great records they passed down. She started researching my mother's side of the family and found out that our great, great, great grandfather was a midget in a traveling circus and married an indian woman. She couldn't find any other info after that. It's amazing the things you discover about your family.
What an amazing family history! What a wonderful history, heritage and story to hand down to future generations.

I found my US Revolution ancestor. I am so happy. I just figured it out today!

It is the grandfather of my Civil War ancestor (Robert L Briggs). I also found out what Robert died from at Danville, Virginia. In something called American Civil War Soldiers, it states that he died of disease.

To be honest it was already one of my top reasons for his death as a pow.

I hope others are also breaking through those walls.

Today, I am thrilled that I have found free online family history form templates that I can print off. I have been using Ancestry for my family tree but I also want hard copies of the tree, the sources and any stories I have found "just in case".

Now I am just chuffed to bits that I can get started.

I also wanted to remind everyone not to forget living sources for family stories and leads on past ancestors. Example from my husband's family: His grandfather (one of) was a talented/gifted violinist that gave up his training when his father died and his mother needed his help. In a couple of more generations this story would have been lost and that would have been a shame. As it is, my husband can't remember which well known/famous violinist (at the time) his grandfather was studying/about to study under. I hope that his father remembers more of this story as hubby's grandfather (and grandmother) is/are no longer with us.

The Geer/Martin part of my family tree is currently giving me a headache. Finding sources to connect my ancestor to her father and mother have been a real pain (and still is as I need more source confirmation) and now figuring out which wife belongs to which George Martin (there are three in a direct line!!) and who had what children is a real headache. As of this moment, I have five known wives and one unknown wife listed and a large amount of children.

Oh well

Good Luck Everyone!

Update:

I have so far found 5 direct Revolutionary Ancestors. To be honest, I am just thrilled to bits.

My mother is a "recent" arrival and there have been people that have treated me as a lesser person because of this. So, tracing my father's family tree has given me a sense of place not only in myself but also in the history of the US. I have an ancestor who's regiment was at Valley Forge and others who have taken an active part in pivotal moments in US history and have helped to forge our nation (for those in the US

). I hope that everyone else that is tracing their family roots, wherever you live in this world of ours, are finding as much (or even more) fascination, pride and since of place as I have no matter if your family is a "recent" arrival or have been in place for untold generations.

Good Luck to All of You!
