I know that there have already been a few threads on family trees in the past but they seem to have stopped relatively quickly. So, I decided to create my own. :D Please feel free to talk about your own search, comment on mine (corrections are very welcome) or just chat.

Since, I don't want to comment or name living people my search will start with my great grandparents as I am pretty sure all the people from that generation are not currently living. :D.

I love family trees. I'm lucky that my Great Aunt and uncle did extensive research and we have a website dedicated to our family. They traced My mom's side back to 1350 in Germany.

Fun Fact: The last name is translated to "gardener", which suggests that the original matriarch (we started with a woman names Ellin) did that as a profession. I wonder if that is why most of my family is amazing at gardening and can grow practically anything. My mom has plants that were passed down from her Great Great Great Grandmother that are still alive and thriving today.

Edited this out as I made this part sound really, really boring when my family is so far anything but boring so far. :)

Wow Katie, 1350 is fantastic. After a certain point, it becomes really hard to find information. The plants are a living legacy. Hopefully, they will continue to be passed down the generations. :D

Sons of the American Revolution - Cool, just found someone's application for Son's of the Revolution while researching the wives' sides of family. Could mean that I have two ancestors that fought in the revolution. We shall see.....

Sheesh, looks like a cousin this time. On the bright side still have a maybe for the American Revolution, one American Civil War and still lots of family to go through.

And once again another cousin that fought in the American Revolution - same family.

Edited: Very cool cousin - Member of the General Court, Justice of the Common Pleas and Member of Committee under Council of War - very, very cool cousin!

Found three more application forms that have indirect relatives that fought in the Revolution. The most interesting thing is when I discovered that two of my direct ancestors are on the founders plaque in Founder's Park, (Mendon) Massachusetts! :)

I saw my grandfather's WWI Draft Registration Card, 1917-1918, today and my great great grandfather's burial paperwork.

My great great grandfather fought in the Civil War on the side of the north (Company E - 37th Wisconsin Infantry) He was captured at Petersburg and sent to prison in Danville, Virginia where he died. I can't find what he died of yet but shall keep trying. He was discharged from the army the next day. He is buried in the Danville, VA National Cemetery.

It was just so amazing to see those two documents. My grandfather died before I was born and seeing his handwriting on his draft card made me feel closer to him. I have always loved history but knowing how my family both effected history/life and was affected by it makes it come alive for me. :D

I know I am related to the father of our nation, George Washington also on the same side of the family I am related to the people who opened up the Cumberland gap, and they where here so long they where here before the mayflower. I also found out the other side of my family have been here since before the civil war, that means no Ellis Island paperwork for me to trace because we've been here too long
