Western Oregon
Hi there! My name's Rebecca and I live on a small farm in western Oregon. I've already made a thread about our growing flock of chickens, but I thought it might be nice to have somewhere to post other, less chicken-specific goings-on at our farm.

Our place is something between a small family homestead, a hobby farm and an aspiring permaculture system. It used to be my grandparents' farm since back in the late 40's but no one has done much of anything here in the last decade except rent (trash) the house and harvest hay from the fields each year. My fiance, Alex, and I moved here about a year ago and we're slowly repairing things and building what we want out of it as we have the time (and finances) to do so. It's definitely a labor of love and something I'm very grateful to be taking on. My long-term goal is for this place to provide us with a somewhat substantial amount of food and/or income, without depleting the land. I would like to include a food forest on our land. Maybe we'll even figure out a farm name at some point! ;)

So far, our farm includes a flock of Wyandotte chickens, a trio of American Chinchilla rabbits, two black cats, one big white dog, hay fields and pasture land as well as a garden, and more additions planned in the future! If you'd like to see what we're up to, then please follow along and feel free to say hello ~

Today we woke up to find our yearling American Chinchilla doe, Luna, had delivered her first litter without a hitch, on what I estimate was day 31 or 32 after being bred to one of our bucks, Victor. There are 8 healthy new baby bunnies (kittens) in her nestbox and she seems to be a very proud new mum! American Chinchillas are a rare American heritage breed and these little ones are a new generation from great lines. I'm excited to see them grow up and to continue to work with this breed, they are really wonderful animals imo.

Luna isn't the only new mum around here, either. I found this Robin egg shell outside this morning, too! Looks nicely unzipped to me! :jumpy

Spring is certainly off to a good start this year.

Luna's kits all had eyes beginning to open yesterday. They are all fat and growing well, and a couple are extra fat ;)
