Our FIRST Broiler Adventure :)

You guys have done such a great job. I am inspired to try some meat chickens myself! Doesn't look like i'm going to be allowed to though. I have grown up a vegetarian, and my kids are now doing the same. When I started talking about it, my son cryed for 45 min. My Sis, shares the property with us and also veggie, freaked out on me. "no way are you using this property to create meat for people!!"
So sad, I really wanted to try. Not to eat for myself, I'm not a big chicken eater, but my hubby is. I would also like to be able to raise for or share with friends. Give the people I love a healthier meat option.

Hi Lambingfamily

So yesterday was the big day and we got all 26CX done with the help of our wonderful family It was a hard process to go through but I am so glad it is done. I thought I would post the link to my other thread if you wanted to look at it. I still need to go through my pics of yesterday and try to post a few though I didnt take many as I was very distracted and my hands were well kinda gross lol.

Hey there Chicken Pickin! Yay! I am so happy for you. We have been a little distracted with relatives coming for a visit and getting back into full swing with school. I have managed to update our broiler page today. We will be doing about half of ours this weekend. My DH has been out town the past couple of days and will be gone part of next week so we will have to pace ourselves. Fortunately, all are healthy so that is taking the pressure off a bit.

For the rest of you BYC folks, here is the link to our blog. Look at the top of the page and click on Our Broiler Adventure and then scroll to the bottom.

Your birds are looking good!!! I love the pic of the roo on the bottom crowing. I was so hoping to hear a few of our CX boys crow before they went but they were too young and soooo quiet. I hope your processing weekend is going well and I wish you luck. I had my 2 BBWs processed today. I am going to miss them, Turkeys are so easy to get attached to. They came back weighing 17lbs for the hen and 27lbs for the tom. I am very pleased with the weights. If you have a scale I hope you post a few of the weights for your freedom rangers Id love to see what the turn out is. I didnt end up getting a scale at home so I couldnt weigh my CX.

Okay, my BYC friends, I have been slow in posting over the past couple of weeks. Life has been in the fast lane.

Lol! If you are following our broiler adventure page, I have posted pics of this past weekend. As always, I would love to have feed back. Good, bad, or ugly. We are always looking to learn new things and there is no better place than BYC

Okay, I know this is not an update on our broiler adventure but does anyone know where I can purchase any of these items? Thuja200+Nat sulf200+Carbo veg200+Bryonia200

Some our our laying chickens have respiratory symptoms and we want to stay organic.

Sorry it took so long for a comment. Your first processing weekend looks like it went over fantastic. With help even from the kids now thats great. Everything looks great even the cut up chickens all in sections. We took so long per chicken that there was no way I was going to spend extra time cutting them up lol. It must have been very helpful to have the hand held drill plucker. I so wanted to make one but with my fam being busy and it was my project I just couldnt get one together myself. Im looking forward to how this past weekends processing went. I may need to have you on my team in the spring for my next batch with your 12 min a chicken time

Oh and sorry to hear some of your layers are sick I hope they recover fully and quickly

We had another successful weekend of processing. We now have another 10 broilers in our freezer. If you are interested, I posted more details and pics our remaining broilers on our blog site. As always, click on the broiler adventure page and scroll to bottom. Also, I am still looking for a place to purchase these items..... Thuja200+Nat sulf200+Carbo veg200+Bryonia200
