Our First Broody and Incubator Hatch: a Diary

Pics
@igorsMistress Aren't they the cutest little bobble heads to watch while they are learning and growing? :D I'm glad that I changed my attitude about not liking a chicken with a naked neck on them. Now that I have been doing them, I like them better than the ones that do have the feathered necks.

Charley my NN roo is still good about moving out of my way when I go in the coop and run. He let's the girls eat what they want first, and then he will take his turn at what's left. He's a pretty mellow fellow.

@BlueBaby
I was in love at first sight. My first Nn was a Buff named Marilyn after the plain, ugly (beautiful) cousin on The Munsters :gig

If I have a roo again in the future I'm going to name him Herman.

Have you named the little one yet? Oh, and that hen with the dark coloring around the eyes that you like is broody. I seen her waiting for the other hen to get out of the nesting box, and when I was collecting the egg before she could get on it she puffed herself up. She's also making a different clucking sound than normal.

She can bring her eggs over here and hatch them if she wants ;)

No names for chickens any more, I promised. Makes it difficult to butcher later. Not that I'm planning to butcher the chick. I like the physical traits so far.

:yuckyuck None of the eggs that she want's to sit on are her's. She stopped laying. Some of her's are in my incubator now, though. I'll let you know if I get a chick that looks like her.

so I guess it would be easier egg laying and less gleet worry?
I don't think butt feather type has anythgin to do with egg laying or gleet susceptibility....might be easier to clena up any messy butt issues tho. They sure look funny as chicks, almost reminds me of a certain poodle clip.

Turken/Naked Necks are supposedly decent meat birds.

Snip

Yes'm I'm starting to change over to Naked Necks for dual purpose as we want eggs and meat both. I like the fact that this chick has no bib or bow tie and I want that in future generations. Cockerel or pullet, it's a keeper.

It might be easier. I guess I will have to let you know if one of mine ever get's that.

Yes, they are decent meat birds, plus they lay eggs pretty good too. Mine are mixed with the White Breese, and that is also a meat bird.
