Hi there, I'm Christina. My husband, 9 year old son and I just got our 4 Buff Orpington chicks yesterday. We decided to get chickens for the eggs and for the companionship of some cool creatures. Our neighbor has 5 chickens who get to run free all over the neighborhood. They visit our yard often and we fell in love!
We had been talking about getting chickens for a few months but hadn't really made any preparations so when we made our decision I searched for info online... Here we are!
We have our chicks in a big cardboard box with all the fixins and they seem to be acting normal based on everything I read on this site.
Our coop and enclosure aren't built yet but we will be starting it today!

Hi :welcome Christina

Glad you could join the flock! Congratulations to you and your family on your new chicks :celebrate
I love raising chicks and I'm sure you will too. It's a very rewarding experience and lots of fun. Here is a lovely article on raising chicks with lots of useful tips https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/raising-chicks-artificially
Good luck with your coop build I hope it goes to plan. Be sure to ask any questions you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and your new babies :frow

Welcome to BYC, Christina. Glad you decided join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your BOs.

Hi Christina glad you joined the Backyard chickens flock. Love your avatar, I"m not a runner , I'm a walker. I have two speeds: slow and slower. I've seen a t-shirt lately that says "My mascara runs faster than you." Walkers are pretty much ignored.
