Our First Coop! Building the Coop In Progress, Part 1

WOW you are doing a great job on the coop. You also have some very nice looking doggies. Makes me miss my old girl just seeing them.
My staffie was good with the birds. My favorite breed of dog. Not because they can be taught to be viscous but because they are so very sweet.
There are a lot of breeds of chickens that should suit your needs well.
Keep us posted. Always looking for updates on progress.

Hello again,

Our coop is progressing very slowly, but I thought I'd add photos of our almost completed roof. 4' x 8' sheets of plywood on 2" x 6" x 8' rafters on 24" centers. Reason for the roof on the run area . . . where we live in Northern Maine we get terrific amounts of snow and rain, so overhead protection is necessary. We have added 6" to 8" of washed sand to the run. And maybe adding washed sand to the coop floor itself, which will be 3/4" plywood covered with linoleum.

Thanks for looking.

Hello again,

We are now into mid-September and my coop construction has continued, but at a very slow rate. Other projects needed to get done. Here are updated photos of my coop. The roof is finished! Still need to add windows and vents and complete the inside wall of the coop. My nesting box is done and you can see it in the photos. All the wood exposed to weather conditions has been finished with a cedar stain.

Thanks for looking,

FredSG
