Yay!!! :celebrate
My Blue Swedish laid her first egg! :wee

I'm not sure if we will eat it though... Any thoughts? Could the first egg be any worse than the future ones?

Should I change her diet at all? Add more calcium maybe, like crushed egg shells? Will she be laying consistently now? I'm so excited.

Congrats on that first egg! What a beauty.
No reason not to eat it..... enjoy!
What are you currently feedfing?

We're feeding generic poultry feed with grit. I'll take a picture when I get home off of work or when my husband can send me one. I think it's 17% protein.

Congratulations! One thing: when you eat the egg, if for any reason you don't like it, please don't give up! Duck egg yolks are much fattier than the chicken eggs you're used to eating. Personally, I love duck eggs, just not sunny side up--I prefer them scrambled. And they are excellent for baking!
Giving them oyster shell is necessary, but it's no big deal. You can mix it in with the crumbles you're feeding. And BTW, whenever you receive a comment from Miss Lydia, please take it seriously. That lady does not mess around, when it comes to ducks.

I plan to scramble it! My husband wants to try and drain it to preserve it, but we will see. And we will get oyster shells asap! Thank you all. Will she be laying consistently now?

She may still lay off an on for a few weeks till her system gets all the kinks worked out. As for oats not sure right off how much calcium is in them but I really suggest Oyster shell it is pretty inexpensive.

I just won't be able to get to the feed store till Monday. I'll check the calcium percentage on the oats when I get home!
