Our First Flock

Awwwww, what sweet pics! Nice list you've got there! You sure did your homework! Thanks for sharing. Welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us!
Thank you! The most important thing was that they all be docile, as we are all animal lovers in our home. 2nd priority was nutritious eggs. I'm very glad to be here as I have learned a lot from you folks!

We noticed our chicks have started growing 'big girl feathers' on their wings. I think it's time to graduate from paper towel bottom to pine shavings in the brooder, add a roost, and introduce a wider variety of treats along with some grit. I can't wait until we have a warm enough day for their first backyard adventure!

So I drew up a rough plan for the coop & run last night. Sorry this pic is so dark, but the footprint will be 5'x8' with a 5'x10' run on each side of the coop. I want the front wall of the coop to be 7' tall and the back to be 9' tall, with a simple sloping roof which overlaps the walls by a foot on all sides. Under this overlap I'd like to have 8" tall vent slots along the length of each wall. I want to have a bear earth floor to utilize the Deep Substrate Method with pine shavings. Any advice or input would be appreciated:

The gals got to go outside for the first time today. Great way to celebrate their one week Birthdays!

Even though she thought outside was way cool, Vera kept hopping up into my lap for cuddles:

7 Day old Chewie, still looking funny as heck, but look at those big girl wings:
