Our first time incubating Guinea eggs. (Lil Giant)

Congrats Phil, sorry I'm late replying, busy busy here.

71% RH is good for lockdown... 80% is fine too tho. Try not to open the incubator if you have any pipped eggs, the humidity and heat loss can cause shrink wrapping of the membrane down over the keets, and that can kill them (they get stuck and can't spin around and zip the eggs and hatch). And as hard as it is not to, helping any of them out of the shells may backfire on you. Usually if they can't hatch on their own there is a reason for it...

You're grey keet is a Lavender. Apparently a couple of your birds are carrying the (hidden recessive) blue gene.

Thanks for the reply in both threads Peeps.

I thought that light colored keet might be a lavender.. So excited to get one of color..

When I move them to the brooder I'll get a picture of the light colored one..

Again Thanks

Phil

Phil, I saw in one of your pictures what looked like the same temperature and humidity gauge I have now, the IncTherm gauge. Is that what that is? Have you been happy with it? I have been doubting some of the readings I am getting....

I've been very happy with it.. Mine seems to be right on.. At least close enough.. lol

It may be a little off as my Guineas started to hatch a little early. On day 26 instead of 28.. From what I've read that's not unusual..

We are now up to 9 that have hatched today so far.. We have just doubled our flock..

Here are a couple of more pics. I tried to get a couple of pics of the light colored one & another pic with a couple of newborns looking up at something.

She's in the middle.. Hard to get a decent pic with the flash..

Now she's playing on the wash cloth. You can see my mod for the temp knob.. The allen wrench sure makes it easier to set the temp..

Just to show how bright & alert the babies are.. So far so good..

How adorable! Thanks for your thoughts on the gauge. I got home last night and the "max" for the day said 107... it is located in my kitchen of my house (away from the ovens) and my son was home all day. He didn't say anything about the house being too hot, so that made me think the gauge might be wrong. If not, I think the three eggs in there are probably toast. =(

Hopefully they are ok. It all depends of course for how long you hit that high temp..

Of course your thermometer could have gone belly up.. I'd match it with another thermometer if you can..

Cute pics Phil. LOL, you're hooked, I can tell

Congrats on doubling our flock already!

Thanks..

I have the turner pulled out, cleaned up & the next batch of eggs already turning while I collect enough.. In about a week I'll have enough for a second batch.. Guess I am hooked.

We are already up to 15 eggs hatched so far today.. Around 16 or 17 to go.....

They are climbing all over each other...

P.S. You are right about ACV with mother being expensive.. I got a 16 ounce bottle for $3.50.. I'll start giving it to them tomorrow when I move them to the brooder..

So far the total for yesterday & today is 19 healthy and very active keets...

I have moved them to the brooder.. They were driving me nuts in the incubator.. lol

We have a few eggs still in the incubator. They started to chirp in the eggs after I moved the hatched ones out.. Non of them had piped yet so I think they may be alright. We will know in a day or so..

Here are a couple of pics.. Everybody let me know if I go too crazy with the pics..

16 Pearl Grey and 3 Lavender...

My little pup didn't know what to think about the birds in her house.. lol

Now her sister joins in. They are about a year old.. Chihuahua and Mini Dachshund mix.. They are super sweet..

I hope that keet doesn't think that dog is her mother.. lol

Thanks for looking..

Phil
