Our Gas Company SUCKS (Rant)

Ohhh that actually makes a lot of sense!

And I'm not sure how common it is but I think it's definitely relatively common. I'm thinking I won't sign up for it when I move out. It is nice in some ways though because if it's a good company. They'll come right away or they cover a certain amount so it's not as expensive but it all depends on the company and unfortunately, you don't really known if they're good until you're already paying them and need something. Haha it's probably still better to just save though. Sometimes they replace them free too I think but probably still not worth it

Is this system of paying the gas company to service your appliances common ?
I know if they did it here, I wouldn't signup for it !
Probably depends on the area, I know at least one of the gas companies in my area offers the service but it only covers labor... They got grilled a few years back by the Illinois Attorney General as a rip off... The Attorney General said that less than 2% of those with the service actually filed claims, and the average claims that were filed were less than the yearly cost of the service...

It just doesn't seem to be something they would be good at. I want the gas company to safely deliver gas to my home. I want the water company to safely deliver water and the electric company to safely deliver electricity. I don't want them distracted for that.

Well our gas company's sell tanks, appliances an do the installs so it is something they have the skill set to do, I just dont think its a good deal.

I called one of them one time to fix a leak. I knew it was leaking cause the line was wet. The gas guy said that propane did not come out of the line as a liquid so he didn't think it was leaking... I had to teach him about condensation an thermal effects of pressure change.... He fixed my leak.....

Well I don't want to live in a big city, or even too close to one. I do want to live where I don't have to use propane.

Around me having natural gas piped in or needing a propane tank can literately very by what side of the road you are on or even by a few city blocks distance down a road, and if you don't have either you actually get a big discount from the electric company as an all electric residence... Same with other utilities and services as well, I'm incredibly annoyed that across the street they can get cable Internet and fiber-optic Internet, but I'm stuck with slow ADSL just because I'm on the other side of the road...
