Our girls are free ranging and I am holding my breath.

It took 2 months for my hens to get too brave to free range. They all stayed within view of their coop, but the past few days they have been going as far as the ditch and into the neighbour's yard.

back to the run for my girls (besides my barred rock, she is my good girl XD)

I am able to let my bantys free range around our yard when the swallows nest in our pole barn as they chase any birds of prey away immediately. It is really fun to watch them. I also have a Golden retriever & Rottie who pick up fox and coyote scents and start barking. My husband put a green snow fence in the woods surrounding our property and that keeps the chickens from free ranging into danger. The dogs do not bother the chickens. We raised so many baby chicks that the dogs seem to understand that the chickens belong here. Before we had the dogs, we had a fox come right up in our yard and grab a couple of babies that were trailing after their mom! So be careful!

Today I was gone for the morning/afternoon and let them out at about 4:30. They truly love it. They all headed back to the run/coop and were snuggly in the coop by 7:30. If anything bad happens it will break my heart but to see them so joyful hopefully is worth the risk.
