Today we tried something new for entertainment. We raked up leaves and threw them all in the girls yard. Until today we had be cleaning their yard daily. Raking and getting all left over treats, watering their grass and still the grass was dying. Giving Up Was the Smartest Think WE DID and the girls were thrilled all day

Even though my birds free range when ever I'm home they've still dstroyed every shred of green in their very large run. I throw almost all our non woody yard debris in there for them to pick through when they aren't out and about.

I'm thinking this fall after 2 yrs of poop, straw, and yard debris getting composted in there I'm going to take off the top 6 inches of soil and use it to cover a large weedy area I want to turn in to veggie beds.

Gads columbiacritter, with 2 years of "rich" composting you're going to have HUGE veggies.... I'll be waiting for you to email me pics of your veggie garden.

We're only 2 days into composting this way, (actually the girls want us to do this for them) and we're eager...

I do that for my hens and they have a blast flinging the leaves around.

This spring I decided to try b/c of the fly problem in the summer.

Then I go in, rake them back into a pile and its new fun all over again!

It really doesn't take much to entertain them
