Our goofy LGD Casca

ha too funny, it's always the big guys that fuss while your on the phone. I used to have a pit/dane mix who did the same thing. thanks for sharing!

He's a pretty dog, but he's not a true LGD if he's in the house.

They need to bond from an early age , and he's way past that point already
He may not even have the instincts, since he's only half Pyr.

He spends 3/4 of time outside but those pics were when he was a pup and still being trained to the property boundaries. As our property is not fenced, he goes inside if we leave for any length of time. His instincts proved themselves long ago, a squirrel does not come into the yard without him chasing it away. No dog has come on the property without getting chased off by him (and the 10 lb ChiChi) or shot by me. He does an excellent job guarding the birds and at night they are more than safe in their coop which has never been breached. I believe in doing my part to protect my birds as well.

I grew up training GSDs and bird dogs with my father and grandfather and LGD or not....you do not leave a 6 month old puppy unattended with birds...that much any fool should know hence him having a crate in the house. Great Pyrs do not mature until age 2 and without proper training, they are no different and just as ineffective, as any other dog in regard to the job they are there to do...ignorant of the job. I would appreciate it if you refrain from tossing your infamous link up in posts about my dog...I've seen it posted by you enough already whenever "LGD" is posted in a thread. I have been to the site, read through it, looked over it and have seen better. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter. At any time you would care to come to Oregon to meet my dog and see his ground manners, let me know. After April 1st you will have to travel to Kentucky following our move. Casca would love to meet you...he likes new people.

Some of what you said may be true, but it doesnt change the facts that I stated
A dog in the house is not a Livestock Guardian Dog. It's a pet.
My cat chases squirrels, so that doesnt qualify either.
Your dog is showing territorial behavior and not livestock guardian behavior.

There's nothing "infamous" about facts.
The term LGD refers to specific breeds that are trained for a specific task, and not just any dog that barks at things.
