our guinea disappears at night??? :(

She goes in the coop in night with all the chickens. She is like the sentinal lol she waits til everyone else is in and then marches back and forth in front of the door for 5-10 minutes then hops in lol That has been her routine since we got her...until 3 night ago when she disappeared. Joe managed to get her in the coop last night and scattered the nest she made and disposed of the eggs so hopefully tonight she will revert back to coming to the coop.

Miss Guinea is something special and now that she is discovering her inner self we will have to keep an eye on her and see what she does. You are right in that she will follow the flock until she gets an idea in her head...its so funny!! she will be grazing and walking with them and boom!!...right turn clyde!! off she goes lol its the cutest ever but as we learn, we will adapt. Hopefully we can keep her coop train with the rest as she has done so far, i will do the treats with bells regularly to train her more and i will talk to joe about maybe getting another lady as friend at the fall auction. We will have discussed another coop idea, cuz we would need one next spring anyways, and we do have a chicken tractor for our broilers, but maybe a small one for the guinea's could our next option.

She's a lucky girl. Sounds like a good plan! If my prediction is correct, you'll have another coop by spring, LOL - just for your guineas.

lol you may be correct JLeigh lol In our many conversations over the last few days while Miss G was out and about, Joe said " we can build a seperate coop for more guinea's once we get settled"....meaning, we commute..or rather i commute at the moment and Joe lives permanently at the northern house.(my commute is 3 plus hours so) Our plan is to buy our 10-50 acres lot (we have 18 right now) but on a lake in the next 2-4 years and build our dream home and dream coops for our many flocks and animals as we plan to raise meat pigs etc. We like growing our own food. Its the first time getting a flock of guinea's came up and i am surprised it came from him! lol In the meantime, we do need another coop. We were thinking we need one for a medical house if any get sick or brooding home for when we plan to start hatching. Its all so new right now!! lol First we want to finish what have, this week, and then we will think out the next step. Someone on BYC didn't seem impressioned that our new expansion run is not covered with wire as well. But we are satisfied with it. Its about 500-600 Sq Ft and alot to cover plus its fully surrounded and covered by tree's and pretty dense. its there morning hangout until about 12-1ish then they are free to roam until bedtime :)

and bottom line, we are lucky ones!! to have her!!! and our chickens. they are wonderful and bring so much enjoyment to our lives. :) our other neighbours down the road love them and can't wait til we go away so they can play with them and hang out with them lol but we are blessed and hopefully doing well by them. We just want happy chickens regardless wether they are producing or not. They deserve a good life after what they came from.
