Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

SHOULD I ADD THESE TWO GIRLS TO MY FLOCK? And maybe one of the chocolate colored ones too....?

Um... do you really think you should be asking a bunch of enablers such a question? LOL
LOL.... that was kind of the point.... Hubby would prefer that I NOT get them... but I REALLY REALLY want them! And my 3 BCM chicks look like they are turning out to be Roos... and 2 of my Buff cochin chicks are definate roos... And I am planning on putting Rogue, the Australope Roo into the freezer in a few weeks! So.... that should leave roughly 6 spaces in my flock... not counting the 11 that were killed last month!

Most Ozzies hang on to anything Australian when we live abroad.

I even enjoy watching aerial ping pong and talk to sand gropers and crow eaters - and I even stopped asking Tasmanians to show me their scar.

Funny, is true how be band together abroad, yet argue about small things at home.
It's Monday night here... I have one pip... a small tiny crack... Oh... I am nervous now... I know, can go a few days over or under, but I WANT A CHICK NOW!!
Oh so close. I have pretty much written off lock down in my count down..stuff starts to happen then, it's when nothing happens that is boring hahahaha

What are they doing still n the ground? Shouldn't they be in the boot already?

Chicken math in progress! You have already sacrificed the space, not like they are extra mouths to feed.

Have a good day team, I need to find a way to keep myself busy....you know, to calm my 'bator brain.

Lol. I have to remind myself every time I see a rehoming post on the Michigan thread that I have not yet started freezer camp enrollment, therefore, I cannot (NO!) accept any birds until enrollment is done.

Permission granted hahahaha Woo Hoo!

Well, she is going to hold on to the blue and the light gold for me to pick up at the swap on Saturday! Hubby said to tell you enablers to "knock it off!"

(I was reading him the posts, and he had a smile on his face, so I think it was only half hearted!)

Good stuff, I forget that what we call a boot you guys call a trunk lol, but you get my drift.

Some great countryside you have there.

I did a spot candle while turning tonight, end of Day 10 and found one that I think may have given up the ghost early. I am guessing it is a 'blood ring' as I can see a darker band around about the middle, and it's not as dark as the rest. Was one of the Fav's too, so we are down to 3 out of 4.

Also got to talking to the neighbor over the back today. We have slung them some eggs in past couple of weeks, just when we see them outside and always just a brief chat. Today we got to talk some more and he said "whats with the rooster? Haven't heard him in a while?" I was thinking "here we go....this is where he tells me he was ready to jump the fence and strangle him" "Oh, we sold him as a pair with his little girlfriend to a place with a few acres, we were getting worried about the noise" and knock me down he says "Oh, that's a shame, I liked hearing him every now and then"

Doh!!!!!

I was quick to say we might have one again soon but he won't crow for months but good to hear pretty much everyone was ok with him providing we kept up with the night box, 4:30am crowing wins no one over hahaha

We were also complimented on our eggs for the second time in two days, "I don't know how, but they are the best eggs I have had, are they special or something?"
"No mate, just happy girls lay good eggs!"

A good feeling, he walked away pretty happy with a dozen eggs :)
