Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Hi Mathew and welcome to BYC, if you post some pictures and a bit of info we might be able to help you out, but if you post it in the Breeds and Gender forum, you will have a much wider audience, and they may be more helpful.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Just follow the link, then click the blue button that says 'start new thread' and fill in the blanks with as much info as you have. Some thing people will want to know is an estimate of age and where they came from. As for pictures, the better quality the better the response will be, a side shot and one that shows the head/comb will be most helpful.

To add the pictures click on the little box in the text field that looks like a landscape picture (next to the roll of film picture), then click 'upload file' this will take you to your computer files, find where you have saved your images and click upload. You can add info in between the pictures for more detail.

When you are done, click submit, it takes a while, more if you have lots of pictures to upload and then they should appear in your brand new thread. When you are done, click the blue button down the bottom right that says 'submit' and the thread will then be live for everyone to see.

To find you way back, you can click on the 'subscriptions' button on the top right corner of any page, it will list all the threads you have posted in, including this one!

Others may then ask questions like "what colour are their feet?" or similar, before you know it you should have some indication of breed and gender.

Good luck :)

Well, I went and got some buddies for my little loner today. I picked up 5 Isa boys. I figured, if the boys weren't bought up today, they'd be destroyed... Joy of hatcheries... and I don't really need any egg layers at the moment. SO. I got 5 boys. The lady told me they didn't get much meat, but I know that, and that's fine. They're soup birds. Anyway.. They're so dang cute! And yes... I am going to eat them... BUT they are so dang cute!

This is the quietest little Loner has been. He is so much happier now that he's got company aside from me. So much so that he was not wanting me to pick him up and take him away from his new friends.

Time sure flies Ben. Seems like only last week that you set the eggs, but you were what? 10 days after me on your set? Something like that. Can't wait to see what your final results will be.

OH, and WOOHOO on the coro pips. Of course, you need to post pics SOON.

Soup hey...famous last words?!

Time does not stop for anyone. I weighed the eggs and moved them into the hatcher this morning, Day 17 20 hours to be exact. (I will be out this afternoon) 32 have gone in, but I don't think one of the ARA's will hatch as it seems to be lagging behind the others in development. Leaving it in just in case it found a cold spot or something. One of the Wellies is also a concern as the air cell is off to the side. Still in anyway.
Last night I marked the air cells, so now tey are all positioned so I can see any pips hehehehe.

Weights were a touch on the high side, maybe a gram above ideal weight, not that I can do much about that now but I have kept good info, so next hatch I can adjust as needed.

Oh yes, would love come coro chick pics!

Here are the " chic pics " I promised , yes Ben before you were struck down with " bator brain ", that would have had a completely different meaning.

CHICK PICS!!!!.....Oh hang on a second!

Love it Lisa, they are cute, the stage was pretty sweet too. You certainly captured the moment. I hope you got my last email, I am going to be pretty busy soon with our trip. I would like to sort our deal early rather than later if that's ok with you.

Everyone here except Cooper has seen some eggs wiggle now, temps and humidity are looking good.
