Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

I understand the need for rules, and as son as there is an issue we would work to resolve it. I have found talking with these people though has made a very big difference, the bribes are a bonus lol

papped a few more shots today, it was really nice weather this afternoon so EVERYONE was out for a walk on the lawn.

Speaking of bribes, this is Alicia's hand trying to score point with Rosie :)

Even brought the Coro's out for walk in the sunshine

Which drew the interest of 'Mrs Mum' I watched to see her response once she arrived with the lil Rocks in tow.

She got close enough to stare them down...then peck one quite hard on the back, as it ran she momentarily gave chase, until a human hand swept the chicks up, you can call me the protective father lol. Rosie got a stern talking to for setting a poor example in front of her own kids.

The Rock babies, one has lost the black line down it's legs, the other still has it so still thinking one male and one female.

Everyone else was down the back running wild, thankful I have been lazy and not mowed the lawn hahahaha

You need to stop making me jealous with that green grass. Mine is watered three times a week ( I have a bore) yet it still looks brown and feels crunchy, If I had the money I'd rip it all out and start afain with a different type of grass. Wondering if the Kangas munching on it every night doesn't help

Strewth! One mum on main roost with her babies as of last night and now I have another in her place in nesting box already! This was one that I broke broody on about six weeks ago and I guess she wants to try again along with another hen that is not even one year old. MMmmmm wondering if I should let the young do it too, they are equal ranking so should get on okay. I am afraid If I never allow her to privilege of egg sitting she might never want to

Sounds like your chickens are suffering from chicken math!

Our lawn has taken a beating recently, must be some good stuff under it in the shady part as all the girls are getting into the same two spots. I have mesh wire laying all over the place hahahaha

Seriously considering loosing some of it in favour of another garden bed for veggies and some fruit trees. SOmeone was telling me about Fruit Salad tree's which sound interesting, maybe a Mango or Mulberry tree too.

Be careful with this tree, the wild birds will have purple poo stain all over everything after eating the berries!

Yep I'd think twice about the mulberry. Nothing more annoying than washing your clothes twice. What about a nectarine or plum tree. Apple trees are good value too. If I were in Perth I would definitely have a mango. When we lived in Sydney we used to buy a box of mango 's for $7 at park lea markets. Here in tassie $7 will get you 2.

Mango is great - just make sure nobody is allergic to the sap from the tree. It can be nasty. I buy 10Kg of mango at a stall on Day1 of my trips to the Phils.
