Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

I think we will, but Alicia is pretty keen to let a broody do the work so we will let nature take its course for now.

There is certainly a lot less work involved when they are all grown up!

I still want some blues, but not sure what other breed I would be keen on, chookpatch has some awesome Olive eggers, tempted to try postade eggs again for some of those, plus there is Fancy's Coro's.....Oh Oh, I started to think about breeds again hahahaha

Don't forget these lovely blue laced red Wyandotte , no enablers here. :D

Then there's the black blue laced red and of course you could do with some more SLW.

I had a Coro Sussex - she was beautiful! Unfortunately my dogs got to her and killed her. I was quite upset. Here she is
Oh that's sad K. I have a little 6 week old cockerel LG ( little George ) he comes inside every time the door opens. I watched him yesterday jump up on the sleeping ridgeback . I held my breath and watched. Elsa the ridgeback simply got up and walked away with LG in hot pursuit. Maybe LG stands for l' lucky George '.

Yes unfortunately they've killed 3 of my girls. An SS, a Coro and a lavender Ara. Both a quite prey driven, so there's nothing I can really do except be extra vigilant.
We haven't had an incident with them for about a year now, so fingers crossed.

You'' get your lovely Coro girl one day Ben!

Fancy - I LOVE the look of the Buff Laced 'dottes.

They are amazing, might have to go for a mixed dozen (or two) next time Lisa, I could not pick from those breeds. They are all wonderful. Alicia still wants a SLW, she misses Pepper our first. I secretly want a 'Fancy's Wylkie' too even though Alicia has said they are not for her. If a couple magically appeared on hatch day...well it too late hahahahaha I don't think I would be so luck sneaking in any NN's or showgirls though!

Now I just need that broody......

I had a NN - I used to not be a fan of them at all, but they grew on me.
I did have a 1/2 dozen NN eggs under one of my Wellies to test the fertility of a friend's rooster, but sadly none hatched. So he obviously didn't do the deed.

Those "wylkies" are cute!

This is my oldest wylkie, she must be 6 lovely little thing . Has hatched out silkies , Wyandotte , Sussex and barnevelder and of course last summer she managed to sneak into the hay shed and hatch out 14 of her own. She is currently co- hatching 1 egg with her daughter. Forever hatching !
Ben I am trialling some blue laced red Wyandotte x gold laced , they are looking really good. Have 2 dozen eggs going to WA next week, some to the Kimberley.
