Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Pam, water jugs from Ice mountain brand... The ones with the blue handle, those are pretty sturdy.

Wonder how much it'd cost to mail one or two of them olive jars here....

All this time I thought you were meaning that the LA were lavender Australorps... Duh. Love their color, and love the pattern on that last LA.

gotta do toy room cleaning today, then make a goodwill run...

Sorry Nova hahahaha, we Aussies have made up names for all sorts of things, sometimes I forget others don't use as much slang as us.

My Dad has always called eggs 'bum nuts', Very much confused my aunt from Ireland when that was on the grocery list!

Not much news BUT 5/6 of our older birds put themselves onto the roost in the coop tonight **does a little dance!**

I actually hung around on dusk to see what was happening, the two boys made sure ll the girls were tucked in before they put themselves down for the night, except Milo (RIR) must have got lost after his last walk around inspection of the run as he was in the corner.

Still, very happy it didn't take too long to learn. Weirdly, it seems to be as satisfying as toilet training our kids! One less thing to worry about right!

LOL, bum nuts... that's great. I would have thought you were meaning dingle berries if you hadn't specified what they were. LOL. I wonder hwo well they'd sell off craigslist if I posted... "Bum Nuts for sale, $3 a dozen. Brown, green, tinted." LOL. OMG! That's the best freaking laugh all day!

Hahahahaha, matches in well with your avatar lol.

We seem to have different names for everything. One time I was in North Carolina at a bar (famous large chain type) I wanted to take home a souvenir. I asked the bar maid for a 'stubbie cooler' It took quite some time for us both to learn what the other was talking about, involved hand gestures and strange looks. Apparently they call them 'beer coosies'!

Bedding change today....didn't get as long as usual out of this batch. I also found a block of this other material at the feed store. It's for horse bedding, looks like pine chips but it's made mostly from hemp. There were many marinating jokes made at the counter. Yet to open the block but I think it will ony be a few days before we need another change.

It was $20 cheaper than the pine shavings I last bought for about the same volume.

working in a hospital here in the USA as an Aussie I was aghast when I heard a nurse say "roll over and I will give your fanny a rub". A fanny in Oz is a totally different part of female anatomy

True, as a kid I had a very odd image when I head a 'bum bag' called a 'fanny pack'.

I just read on FB a person here say "I didn't have enough for the fuel, not even in schrapers" A slang term for shrapnel, which is a slang term for coinage! Out of control here, let alone all the 'text talk' I struggle to understand that stuff.

I just did the last candling. There are several more that look like they quit, but as I am not certain, I marked all the ones that I was not sure off. One was clearly NOT alive. SO, there are now 36 eggs in the bator.

Good
Phoenix- 17
WC polish- 2
Jap Bants- 3
Yoko- 1

Think they are bad
Phoenix-8
Pol -1
Japs-3
Yoko-1 (AND its not even the one I thought was bad and x'd on day 4)

Anyway, temp is working it's way back up. Humidity is up to 62%, still going up. I filled the two wells that bator directions called to be filled, and have a fish hose on standby to add water if needed through a vent hole.

I really hope both Yoko's hatch, and if not, hope the one is a girl.
