Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Ben, do you know just how much I would like to hear this warbling, weird and, honking egg song?
Scott

I don't have the two 'weird' Rocks eggs songs, but I do have some of the others on video. I will link my old video's at the end of this post, and try catch the new ones soon.
Mine make such a ruckus that I often find myself heading over to the pens just to check on everyone. Ben if you go to woolies or Coles they have a generic chest rub for half the price, works just as well.
The truck has arrived, I think we need a bigger turning circle.

That happens here too sometimes, there's normal sounds and then there is 'go down and see who the Rock is trying to drag from the nest now' sounds. Fortunately, since both the nasty Rock have started to lay they have chilled right out and we have not had any nest issues.

Glad to hear the truck is in safe n sound.

Ben this link on cnemidocoptes mutans ( scaley leg mite ) explains that they are less than 0.5mm and they live their entire life cycle 10-14 days on the host.

Thanks very much, I have not seen that one, I will make some time to sit down and have a read after this.

I sort of like the idea of having a wire or chain hanging from the roof that you can pull to sound the horn. You'll have to take the truck out for a spin, and tailgate everyone and honk at them aggressively.
Don't have to drive far to find that around my neighbourhood!

So, for those that may have missed some of my earlier video's.

Luna, she has this odd egg song, more moaning than clucking. When it's hot she does it pretty much all day.

This is also Luna, and Baby having a bit of a cluck off one morning (a fair while ago as it was the old coop) then along some 'Smudge' the Lav Araucana rooster who decides he likes to have a try at an egg song too.

After Smudge was sold, Rosie the RIR had an identity crisis and started her own version of a weird lady crow. ONly lasted about a week then Luna took over as top hen and she has not done it again since.

I am yet to catch Luna mounting other hens on video, but I see that happen at least a couple of times a week.

We are on flood watch tonight, got the cows up in the Nick of time, they had to wade chest deep for the last 50 m. Heard these loud rumblings, not sure what it was , might have been thunder. The winds have been 180 k, I was a bit worried about the truck blowing away. Wow yep it was thunder , there's the lightening.

Whoa, that sounds like one heck of a storm. Hope you'll come through unscathed. One thing comes to mind about the truck though, what kind of surface is it on? Probably weighs pretty much, so a flood might make it sink into the soil if it's not on concrete or asphalt.

I got a video of our egg song, once it's transferred to my puter I'll upload it.

Well I'm here on my own , so I'm hoping it will be ok on a foot of road base. Last night a smash repair business literally ' blew up ' and the fire station nearby was a hive of activity. At least this rain will put the fire out.

Quote: Seems to be freaky weather everywhere. I'm hoping for some rains here too, and there should be a bit of thunder and lightning too. Yesterday it has been a bit stormy in the northern parts of Finland, the lightning record for the year was broken - over 16000 flashes. And a few days ago they had 2cm hail somewhere in the middle parts of the country. Today is finally a bit cooler, after a over a week of 30+ deg C (hottest week in Finland since 1961) weather it's a welcome change, but apparently come weekend we'll be back up to the low 30's.
