Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

To change the subject back to your introduction to the Finnish language, I stumbled upon a interesting word while surfing the web.

atomiydinenergiareaktorigeneraattorilauhduttajaturbiiniratasvaihde - "atomic nuclear energy reactor generator condenser turbine cogwheel gear"

How can you not love our language?

Oh, and Scott, I went out to the cottage yesterday again, snapped some more pictures for you. Water was 26 deg C, but apparently it was at 28 on Friday. Very unusual, usually it doesn't go much above 20.

Here's the view, panning from right to left.

Here's our sauna.

Here's the cottage, the old one in the front, which was re-paneled last summer to match the extension seen farthest from the camera. Between the buildings is a 25 square meter covered terrace with a little grill/stove combo.
Nice views, big looking sauna.

Yes, some girls have just not taken his fancy.

Thats a nice sized Olive egg and a bonus egg on the floor. We have found those from time to time under the roost.

My guess is that it was a late afternoon egg that was not laid, so during the night it passes like droppings.

Karin said she found it away from the roosts. Also, it was covered in some yolklike substance.

Sorry I have been quiet. Life has been hectic.

I have my little brother living with me, trying to get a few issues in his life sorted. It's kept me busy the past few days.

I do however have some lawn pics of the chicks. I have been letting them out for a bit of a free range before the main flock go out. They are outside full time now. Some are roosting at night, some still huddle in the enclosed area. Either way, I am now free to (at some point) clean the dust from my office!!!

I have not seen any further issues with Cleo's leg scales, I have been meaning to catch her again and have a close look, it is entirely possible I keep looking at the wrong bird thinking it's all better.

Yesterday only 3 eggs, but 8 today, with two blue ones so our second Araucana is back on the job. A new daily record is within reach.

The gang in the late afternoon sunshine. A tough winter here.

"what is this?" "Wide open space chickies!"

Mrs Cochin, the only one we are 100% certain about.

This guy may actually still be blue, but dang it's dark. I tried really hard to get a shot of his lacing but was tricky as he's a bit skittish.

Still love the silkie's colour, great nature but has a pretty wide comb for 6 weeks, since I love it so much it has a high chance rate of being male. It's just the way gender goes for me!

Cross...only a little bit.

In other news, I have a dinner date next week. Long story short...ish. This year, I am Team Captain for a team entering into Perth 'City to Surf' It's a running event, ranging from 4km walk and wheelchair to the full marathon distance. Unknowingly, the Captains of the 3 largest teams win a prize! It was announced today, and amazingly our team won!

So, next week, I get to take a guest to a very fancy restaurant (you know the sort, where the plates are big and the meals are small) and sit down to eat with a national icon. Steve Moneghetti. For those not local, or into running he is a pretty big deal. One of the world best marathon distance runners of his day, some of his records still stand! I get to sit with him over a 'VIP experience' and share a meal, photo's the whole 'shabangabang' I really hope I can keep my composure. It's the equivalent of Felix going to dinner with Kimi Raikkonen. I can't wait!

Hopefully your brother gets things sorted soon, and I hope the mites are gone too.

Them perdy birdies are growing pretty quickly. Cross looks pretty feminine to me, but what do I know.

Congratulations on winning the competition, hope you'll enjoy the dinner.

Dinner with Kimi Räikkönen... I don't know if I could stand looking at so much Ed Hardy clothing for an entire meal...

I'd rather jump in a WRC car with him, although fresh underwear might be necessary.

Your birds are looking great Ben. I am loving your cochin girl. Looks very much like my two when they were younger. Congratz on your award. I wouldn't mind sitting down have a chat with steven moneghetti and I am not a runner by any stretch. I would also like a trip with Kimi Raikkonen in his rally car .. now that would be neat.
