Blaah, I would be ready for spring already. I hope your lemon tree pulls it's act together next year and gives you at least three lemons. One of our broodies resumed laying in the weekend, the other one is still watching the chicks, but one chick managed to get itself pecked yesterday. A bit of a wound on the neck, it's now stinking up our living room. Of the four 4½ week old chicks, this is the least male looking one. I think we're having the same luck as you are when it comes to the sex of chicks.

Haha, join the club , 5 of my 8 Wyandotte chicks are cockerels.

The only pullet in the bunch went suicidal a couple of days after hatch, it squeezed itself through a small opening in the nest and got chilled in the big guys section, didn't make it. I'm still telling myself this thing could be a pullet because it's developing the comb a lot slower than the other three chicks, but I'm probably just in denial.

I know, I know... Maybe I can look at it the way that the vetramil is slowly marinating the bird in herbs and honey, so it will be delicious when it's time to eat it. Well, at least we will be able to hatch some more chicks in spring since these won't be staying with us much longer than until March or something. We might swap out the roo for one of these guys though, some Marans might be more interesting to have in the flock than the Sussex dude.

Well, no use crying over spilled milk. I'd rather see the positives in what's happened, than wallow about it. We really can't keep more than one rooster with our current setup anyway, and the future plans don't have more chicken space in the yard at this point. We are planning on getting some meat bunnies though.

I know your cockerel pain! Males everywhere! At least they are healthy.

Bunnies are something that has never attracted my attention. Nice to pat, but never wanted any of my own.
