Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

No no nonono omg noooooo! I have three "smoky" ones like this with white and grey mixed chest, three with solid black chests and ONE light salmon one. The three smoky ones need to be girls. :) The light one and the smoky ones all feathered fast including light fluffy tails, the dark three were much slower and with short flat dark tails. No it cannot be...but I guess I should consider it possible I could have 1 girl and 6 boys - how horrible would that be!

She's just very lethargic. Buff orp about 4-5 weeks old. Crop feels fine except for an air bubble feeling thing. No mites, lice, gnats. Not an impacted crop and I don't suspect sour crop, I've dealt with that this week with another chicken. Poop is normal. She's keeping her head in her feathers and napping all day. Feathers are extra fluffy too.
Shame to hear. Does that 'save a chick' supplement work for birds that old? Are you using any extra vitamins or supplements? Are they wasting, been wormed or showing common symptoms? I don't ave much but those wern't mentioned in your last.

Luna, when she was only a couple of week sold had a air bubble near her shoulder that concerned me. None of the other chicks had it but I did a search and most seemed to say it was an empty crop. Some said they had noticed it but it never caused an issue. Was on the right side of her neck, visible from the back, just in front of the wing. I just left Luna and I never noticed the bubble again.

Sorry I can't offer much more than that.

Sounds like Coccidiosis. Need to treat with Corrid before you start losing chicks. I'm dealing with it right now and it's not fun :(

Colibacillosis maybe? If poop is mostly normal - no blood, birds just sit all fluffed out with ruffled feathers, disinterested in what's going on around them. I'll post a link if I can find one - it's in one of my books...

Hi!!! I'm sure Ben will officially welcome you when he finally wakes up. They sleep during the strangest hours over there. Lol.
