Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

A quick update! Breaking news. Curly the Barnevelder has laid her first egg since she started her moult!

It's pretty light but a nice size. Here's hoping she keeps them coming! Yippee :)

Great news!!:thumbsup

That is a lovely size egg Ben! Yay. And thanks for the vids. I'm not surprised his next one is going to be how to get claw marks out of cement. Lol.
Fancy - I am definitely getting a CTD.

I've been wondering how everyone deals with freerangers on their patio.

Hagrid and Tiger: Anything to worry about here?

Nope - carry on grazing.

You can't see from the angle of the pic, but Tiger was right next to my chair - for protection. Poor boy. He had to go off & have a fight with the hose pipe to let off some steam.

Took the dogs for their walk and I thought I'd take the camera and get some pics of the sea eagles new nest. The old one got blown down in the high winds.
The dogs scared the possum up a tree and 2 river jet boats passed .

It turns out our (and NZ's) possums are very different to the US possums!

Those eagles make an impressive nest.

It has been very wet and miserable here, but somehow we got 4 eggs today, and last I saw the Maran was on a nest.

Haven't had five in a day for a very long time!

All the chicks are going well, still in the inside brooder though. Next time we get some sunshine I will take them out for some more grass time and fresh pictures.

Beautiful pics Fancy! I love the brick work on your home and that Autumn colour. I hardly ever see Autumn leaves & it appears that our four day winter snap is over. We haven't had a drop of rain in days again.

Noosa national Park - I love Winter here!
Back to chickens - is it just me or do others feel that they have to get home before dark to check on the chickens? I know mine are safe in the run & have free access to the coop, but still, it's not the same.
