Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

:tongue It's getting pretty cold here in northern Minnesota. The temps are down in the 20F's at night and only warming up to mid-30F's in the daytime. I started cleaning up my part of the garage to get our second car in there for the winter. All my pallet projects pretty much get put on hold until March or April next year. For the winter, it's just more important to have that second car in the garage in case we need it.

I actually started clearing out all my pallet wood and tools about a week ago. Got almost half done with the cleanup. Unfortunately, I bummed up my left leg/knee, and it's been all stop since then. Hurts just to stand, let alone lift or move stuff. Nothing too serious with the knee but suspect it might take a good week or so longer to get back to normal.

I had planned on making one of those 27-gallon tote racks for out in my garage, using pallet wood of course, but I am just not up to it right now. I have about 12 of those totes from Menards so I could make a good rack to hold them all. It's on my short list. I salvaged all the long 2X4's I will need from the long shipping pallets I picked up at the Bobcat dealership in town a few months ago. Everything is ready when I feel better. Well, probably next spring at this point because my "workshop" is going back into a garage for the winter.

making a cage/maternity ward for 2 pregnant rabbits. all wood I use is scrap. I'll try to post it when I finish it.

At one time, when I was a kid, I had over 100 rabbits in all wire cages suspended in one of our outbuildings. Rabbits won't chew through the wire, but they will gnaw on the wood. No big deal, just have to plan on replacing those scrap boards as needed.

Love to hear how your wood cages work out for you. Let us know.

Hope your knee heals soon.

Hope your knee heals soon.

Thanks. I'm just getting old and stupid things happen and just take longer to heal. I literally went to bed one night feeling fine, and in the morning my leg/knee was stiff as a 2X4! I don't know what caused the problem, but it is getting better. Thanks again.

I put hardware mash over wood on most parts. I don't plan to keep rabbits in wooden cage for long. my 2 females didn't give a birth so I'll see where I will keep them in winter. this cage is nice and cosy.

btw, 1 of my female hasn't been eating and pooping for 6-7 days. for the last 3 days I have been giving her anti gas drops and oxytetracycline in water. she has no symptoms at all. she had scabies in the ears but is has been healed. do you have any idea what I can do to save her?

I had a lot of rabbits, but I never had to really treat them for anything. Also, I had so many rabbits that one got sick and died, it was not a big thing for me. Most of my rabbits were less than 2 years old and quite healthy.

:caf FWIW, I looked up those symptoms online and there was not any good news there....

I need to be very clear here: a rabbit that has not eaten or passed stool for 6 days is in a life‑threatening emergency. Rabbits can develop a condition called gastrointestinal stasis, where the gut slows or stops. Without food moving through, gas builds up, bacteria overgrow, and the rabbit can go into shock. Six days is far beyond the safe window—this is critical.

🚨 Why This Is Dangerous

  • Rabbits must eat constantly to keep their gut moving.
  • Even 12–24 hours without food or stool can be dangerous.
  • At 6 days, the rabbit is at extreme risk of organ failure and death.

🐇 What Needs to Happen

  • Immediate veterinary care is the only safe option.
  • A vet can provide:
    • Fluids (to rehydrate and restart gut motility).
    • Pain relief (gas buildup is very painful).
    • Motility drugs (to stimulate the intestines).
    • Critical care feeding (syringe feeding a special formula).
    • Diagnostics (to check for blockages, dental issues, or infection).

⚖️ Bottom Line

This is not something that can be treated at home. Bath powders, sprays, or over‑the‑counter remedies won’t help here. Please get your rabbit to an emergency vet immediately. Every hour matters.

:idunno Let me be clear, I never had access to veterinary care where I lived. Also, my rabbits were not family pets. We raised them for meat. So, no way would I have even considered spending $$$ on a vet visit. But you do what you feel you need to do.

:fl I am surprised that you said the rabbit has no symptoms at all. I would except her to be leaning over and/or falling down at this point. Maybe with fresh food and water she will come out of it? I have seen a lot of rabbits get sick and they always showed symptoms. In any case, I wish you the best.
