A merkan may get a liter or ml but dL will stump most.

If your chickens are not running out of water each day then they are getting enough. That's the best measure. If they are free ranging they may get most of their H2O needs without you realizing it

I can honestly say that the rate of water consumption of chickens was not something I was prepared for. In each pen I have one of these ceramic pots that would hold 2-3 litres , in the summer months I fill them in the morning and then again at 3 pm. In the winter months they are filled every other day.
I've decided that I need a water tank to service the chickens. I bought those cup waterer's ages ago and haven't gotten round to using them yet.

Oz, I'm trying to run a one man mission to rid the world of the evil imperial units. I know they're getting enough, since they've survived for this long, I'm just wondering if others have noticed that their chickens drink unusually little.

Fancy, beautiful pictures once again. We ordered some of those hanging waterers, they arrived last week, but they were so godawfully ugly that we sent them back. I'd rather build something myself, but the vertical nipples have been out of stock in the two stores that sell them in Finland in smaller quantities than a hundred.

Water consumption should increase once laying has commenced . Just make sure they have plenty of clean fresh water so you don't have impacted crop issues in the future. Some reading for you Felix.

Yeah, the chickens are kept in water all the time. They get only the best, Finnish tap water. Ours comes from lake Päijänne, and in laboratory testing it consistently does better than Evian. But still, I'm amazed how much seems to come from their food.

Oh, I meant to post a picture of this earlier, but I have not gotten around to it. We pealed back some moss from the rock in our yard, and found this quartz deposit. I think our yard was destined for poultry keeping.

this drum supplies 12 coops and about 60 adult birds using vertical nipples

in hot weather birds will consume 1.75 - 2 times the weight of their dry feed intake.

Not more than that? Well then the amount ours are drinking seems about right.
