Our Leap into Peafowl!

Looks great.

Those peafowl are addictive, can't just have one....

Once the small pen was done we had to decide what the dimensions of our aviary pens were going to be. We settled on two pens that would be 10 feet by 30 feet and one pen that would be 20 feet by 20 feet. The 10 by 20 pens will have the last 8 feet enclosed and the 20 by 20 pen will have a 10 by 10 enclosure. This arrangement allowed me to run three rows of 6 posts on 10 foot squares. My least favorite job is laying out posts and getting them installed in the correct position and perfectly vertical but we got it done.

This past weekend we started the framing. The top five feet of the aviaries will be 2x4 galvanized wire. The plan for the bottom 3 feet will be tin sheets. This is subject to change to 1/2" hardware cloth possibly. The top will be 1-1/2" knotted netting.

The pens are between 7-1/2 feet and 8 feet tall. The top framing is treated 2x4. The middle framing is dimensional 2x6 rough cut and treated lumber.
