We have a market 3 towns south of us that has the best deals
and selection of fruits and vegies. Me and Drumstick like to go
there and go "On a Mission". I say that because it is usually busy.

The ethnic diversity is amazing. A lot of Indian, Spanish and Asian
people go there for specialty items. It's fun to look at their carts for
ideas and we usually get some. People actually smile at one another and
even talk to each other. Amazing. I know these places are popular on the
west coast but they are hard to find here.

This is our list from today:

1 Honeydew
2 Canaloupe
3 Nectarines
12 Various pears, including some reds yummm
12 Various apples
5 limes
3 lemons
4 Bags Carrots
2 Stalks of celery
8 Baby cucumbers
3 Pounds onions
2 Huge Spanish onions
2 bags radishes
2 heads of leafy lettuce
1 head kale
1 head escarole
5 pounds potatoes
12 Plum tomatoes ($.99 lb)
8 Vine tomatoes (1.69 lb)
3 Bags nuts in the shell (maybe 1 lb each)
2 Fresh Ginger roots
1 Bunch Parsley
I'm sure I'm forgetting something

$39.00 (actually 38 & change)

Who says guys don't know how to shop.

I hope you're proud of me with this post Miss Prissy.

Wow, what a good haul! I wish we had something like that up here right now...the only thing you'd find here would be icicles and rock hard snowballs

I'm envious !!! I made a comment to someone a few months ago about how much I missed the farmers market in a nearby town (actually it's an hour drive from me so I didn't go often). That person told me there was a local one on Wednesday afternoon.

I thought no wonder I didn't know about it, who the heck goes to a farmers market on a Wed, in mid day. It started and stopped all while I was at work...lol.

It's sorta like a cross between Romaine lettuce and spinach. It's
good in soups.

Like spinach, it is high in calcium and other vitamins and minerals.

Most importantly, CHICKENS LOVE IT.

They had great farmers markets in Georgia. Now most are just gimmics.

This place just deals with volume. All the stuff is fresh because the turnover is
so great. I tell people about it all the time. Many people know about it but
don't go. There isn't much interest in fresh fruits and vegies cheap. Tell them
where they can get a 9.99 prime rib or $.99 hamburger and they line up.

how wonderful. we don't have anything like that out here. and the one in Columbus is more for the yuppies who pay way too much for stuff, and think its 'quaint' to buy from a farmers' market.

Great job. We have 3 markets around us. My favorite one is way to far though. It sounds like the one we go to though lol.
