Our TSC's usually don't start chick days until the end of March or early April!

But there's a feed store north of here called Runnings that got their first shipment of chicks in LAST SUNDAY!

I had no idea they'd gotten any in. They usually carry a HUGE poultry selection during the season....I was just going in to buy dog food & was going to find out when they expected their first shipment. And there they were, one little bin of itty bitty baby chikkens! Little black ones and little tan ones. I couldn't resist! Bought 6 of 'em. The manager said they were actually pullets but were priced as straight-run....so IF he was telling the truth I got them at a nice price, $1.49 each!

Wasn't sure if it was wise to buy chicks in February in South Dakota when temps can still drop into the teens & single digits at night. But I set them up in the garage and made their brooder box nice and snug...they seem to be doing just fine and are staying nice and warm.
