Meet miss Candi.
Hatched six days behind her sisters.
Momma won't take her because she took too long, I guess.
Other broodies won't look twice at her.
Needless to say, she spent her first 24 hours in a brooder. Going to try introducing her a little bit more each day.
Anyone else have experience of hens not accepting their chicks?

Cute. The best bet is to slip her under mama at night, but it may be too late for that. 6 days is a long head start, and this one is likely to be left in the dust be mama and siblings even if they do accept it. A brooder might be the best bet.
Yes, she's in a brooder. Number four hatched and died early this morning.
Number five hatched this afternoon and is in brooder with three.
Believe five is a Cockrel...red Cross come out with such light yellow down, it appeared white.

Meet Five "Tobias" (fourth live hatch). RIR sire and BPR hen, chick came out almost white with a few black marks.
They say a Red Cross with light fluff is usually a Cockeral. So fingers are crossed for a little roo.
