Our New baby chickens

my husband and i are new at chickens, we have four new chicks two barred rock and two ophingtons. we have them in a box im using a 100 watt bulb. They seem to be panting sometimes, is this normal?

They are too hot. I personally used the Momma Heating Pad or MHP, look for info on this site.

They're too hot! Pull the heat lamp back farther and get them fresh water

Can you give them more room?

They need to be able to get away from the heat source , one end should be warm and the other end should have a temperature drop ,

Without pictures I’d say , give them more room please and I’d love to see pictures too ,just because I love chicks

Definitely a cold zone with feed and water and a comfortable place to sleep...

But they definitely need more room
A playpen , or just another box taped to this one with an opening cut out .

At this age the aren’t flying you can put them in a lot of things .... just make sure the lamp is securely attached and can’t fall on them

The box needs to be a lot bigger

Definitely need more room. A box that small with a heatlamp will turn into a cooker.

Definitely need a cool zone where feed and water is ..Then a warm place to sleep. Over heating is a real issue.
