Our new barn cats!

I hear you. The lady was telling us that despite the “no more cats-we are full” sign at the door, people would still bring their cats over. She explained that she had no space due to an ungodly amount of kittens. They said “What do you mean, you cannot take them? Either you take them or I’ll dump them!”. So she invited them in so that THEY could pick the cat to be euthanized to make room for theirs. Good move on her part but it just comes to show how desperate many of these situations are. All these cats were sooooo friendly, it is a shame they end up in a shelter.

Awesome that you are able to do that! Around here they won't let you adopt a cat unless it is going to be a Indoor ONLY cat. The shelters are so full of cats that they end up with them in cages in the hallway especially in the fall.

That was our argument too and that is why the first shelter we visited is still sitting on 120 cats crammed in cages right next to 20 barking dogs. It was just sad to see.
I am glad we found the other shelter with a more open minded way of thinking. The kitties are happily roaming around now and getting to know their new home as well.

That is an issue here as well. I was lucky enough to find one shelter that didn't care i wanted a barn cat, so home came oscar a lovely DSH 2-3yo male he'd spent 8mths at that shelter... but he was solid black and it's said there the last to get homes. I did get him a friend but unfortunately, due to budget cuts the shelter i got my first one from closed so i went the 'free kitten' route as a friend of my oldest dd had a litter...

I wanted to adopt but the remainder of the shelters didn't like i wanted barn cats... shoot my 'barn cats' have squishy beds i lay on top of the hay but i guess locked in cages is better...
