our new chicks

Hi all, i am new here, and yesterday purchased 4 2 and a half week old chicks, i have the heat lamp feeders etc, and are in my utility were it is farleywarm most of the time, i have moved the heat lamp as far away as possible because they seemed to be getting hot, moving into one corner away from the heat etc, at this stage is it possible to keep the heat lamp off and use say a desk light every now and then, i am just worried that are being kept to warm.

FYI, they are in a box, (lxhxw) 23" x 16" 19", heat lamp is on low sertting and is roughly 7" from the top of the box. the lamp is also set to one side of the box.

I would take the heat bulb out and replace with a 60 watt bulb and see how they like that.

I keep lowering the wattage of the light bulbs as they grow. Next 40 watt then 25 watt. It happens fast!
