Here is our new quasi open air chicken coop, we started with the play house my dad built me 20 years ago. We were going to make a fence out of pallets because my husband thinks wire fencing is ugly

. We asked my father-in-law to pick up a load of pallets for us and he brought us fence pickets instead...

You can see our bunny cage to the left of the coop. It has one very old (15 years?) bunny in it.

All that stuff had been "stored" in the play house. We had a lot of cleaning up to do.

This panel is easy to remove, I'll probably take it down this summer after we extend the roof to make this side shaded.

We recycled old cupboard doors so you can get to the nest boxes without entering the coop or even going inside the run.

These nest boxes are the first thing that my husband has ever built, I think he is off to a good start! And our new hens, General Tso and Sesame.

Thank you! We started in February 2009, so a long time. My husband got sick soon after we started so we had to take a looong break from it. We started working on it again in November

I couldn't resist checking on them. Only one is sleeping on the roost, and the other dug out a little spot under the nest boxes and is sitting there. Should I put it on the roost?

nice work!

I see that we had the same idea for naming the chickens. I've gone through my chicken recipe book looking for inspiration.

I wanted to get a Russian Orloff and name him "Kiev"
