CORNING NY
We are still fairly new atn this. we built a nice coop, and it has a window and vent. I was worried that it did not have enough light, since we live in cold weather winter climate and wanted to make sure they were warm. since they are laying nowm and have been and started about a month ago, and we are not nor have we used any artifical light at all and they nare laying good, can I take it that the light situation is ok?

Sounds like they are doing good without it!

Yes. I'm in Syracuse and I only have a light in the back partition as it doesn't get the light. I always recommend the windows face East and South. East because thats where the sun rises. I suppose you could have the windows east and west, for the rising and setting sun.
According to Practical Poultry you want to feed them lots of protein to generate body heat. The article said they give their birds some corn in the evening so they go to bed w/ a full stomach. If their laying normal then it must be your doing things ok. Oh and I only turn the light on in the morning and off at night.
