We spent more time painting the chicken coop than we did building the chicken coop. It was my wife's idea to paint it this way. We love it. The chickens love it. The neighbors love it. Do you love it?

We cut a hole in the side with a jigsaw and then put a hinge on the part we cut out for the chicken entry door.

I used redwood fence boards for the big doors I use to clean the coop. Painted the entire thing inside and out without door heavy duty paint custom color Blended to my liking.

There is a single roosting pole which is a closet hanger Pine Pole cut to the exact width of the coop and secured with two screws. Only our standard hens use it the silkies nest on the bottom.

We use a cardboard box with a cutout full of shavings as a nesting box. Three hens share the same box without any problem. We would have added more nesting boxes but they all seem to share the same one.

When our silkie went Broody the other ones laid next to the Box instead of in the extra nesting box we put in for them.
