Our Plucker & Web page**UPDATED w/video Plucking Chickens**

I am thinking of buying a plastic tub of some kind that is a little bigger than a barrel. I haven't found a source yet but still looking. I also want it a little thicker. I don't know if the barrels would strong enough without any support I like the way yours looks without anything up around the tub.

You can go here enough to make a tub for up to a 24” diameter

That's one of the best homemade devices I've ever seen. It looks like something that would be used in an industrial setting. I'm impressed.

I agree with you pepper, you need a thicker barrel so it won't flex any. That is one reason I was intent on welding the round lip back around the top of mine. I had cut it off to shorten barrel. It does look better with the smooth lip but it also helps to give it some added strength. Good luck with finding a thicker barrel and please let me know if you find a source. If I come across anything I will let you know.

hahahahah I am so sadistic! I think That was the most horrifyingly hillarious thing I've ever seen! and the title " Anyone Can Build a Tub-Style Mechanical Chicken Plucker" for a book? hahaha never thought I'd hear of a book by such a name!
I'm going to make one and on the side Ima paint "Naked chicken amusement park" lol because it looks like they're on a ride gone wrong at the carnival...

seriously though, that's a beautiful job, I am very impressed by your husband and it looks so much easier then doing it by hand! Can you put any size chicken in there? Just an idea for you, there is someone on CL renting their plucker for $30 a day or $50 for a week and they 'claim' it's rented pretty far out... there's isn't as nice as yours, maybe you could make and sell or rent these?

We are not sure what it was...our neighbor gave it to him. It did have some kind of electrical equipment in it and it is a lot thicker than most barrels. I think the neighbor bought it at a surplus sale.
Mitzi

Can you ask the neighbor what it is and/or where he got it?

I can't find anything even remotely similar.

Sweet that is right along the lines of what I want to bulid. I may of missed the cost involved with that but it looks like the motor is the most expenisve part which my dad or father in law may already have laying around. Everything I should be able to get at cost or free, if I none of us have it.

I'm saving this post for reference.
Thank you very much. You ROCK!

He bought it from a military surplus sell. He said it appeared to house electrical connections of some sort but he wasn't what it was used for.

Hi RedStickLA hi everyone

First of all my apologize if my english is not very good, I am french and i'll try to remember all the things my teachers learnt me during my scholarship.

I was very impressed by your plucker, very very great job and I would love to own such a beautiful device.

there is one thing I would like to know : does the water flows through the tube and the bearing, along the shaft. I do not understand how you made the sealing of the tube with the bearing ?

Hope my english allows you to understand my questions.
