Our new coop. Our new coop will be 24 inches above the ground mounted on 4X4 treated posts. The posts will be set in concrete. The floor space of the coop in 6 feet long by 42 inches wide or 3 ½ feet. The roof has a 15-degree slope and measures 64 inches on the high side. There is a window on the back of the coop so they can have a nice view of the patio area. On the front of the coop there will be large doors opening almost the entire front wall for cleaning with two wooden windows that will have hardware clothe when open. They will be about 18x24 inches. Providing no ventilation when shut. The chicken door will most likely be in the floor, I will cut that after the coop is placed in its final spot and the run has been constructed.

The run will be around the back of our built in barbeque next to a six-foot block wall to the neighbor’s house and a small section of the back yard. Total run about 52 square feet. Not a lot of sun there. They will free range our small backyard when not in the run. Lots of worms back there.

Ventilation. I left a section of the walls opened at the top that measures 3.5 inches tall over all of the walls the eves come over this vent area to keep water out when it rains. So if my math is correct that’s about 5.5 square feet of ventilation when the coop is closed up. There are not any vents on the lower part of the coop yet. I think I may need to add some for the air to vent from bottom to top. INPUT PLEASE.

Check back for more pics as the project goes on. We are also planning lap siding, fancy trim, and painting inside and out. Yes calking all cracks and joints.

looks good so far! Is it hot where you are? i don't see a lot of ventilation - unless all those sides still open are just going to have hardware cloth...

Where we live the hottest it will get in a major heat wave will be 100 degs that is verry rare cooling to high seventys at night. Most of the homes here are built without AC. Typical warm weather in mid summer 85 or 90 Deg. highs for the hottest time of summer.
