Our temp. coop

The afternoon sun can get hot... but my hot is up to interpretation. It's a dry heat and it never gets about 82-85 here. Plus we always have a nice breeze. Heck, we don't even have air conditioning in our house, it never gets that hot. I don't think any one here has air conditioning. Never seen it on homes here. But it does get cold here in the winter!

Part of their run gets plenty of sun during the day and when I sit out there to watch Chicken TV, I get hot so I thought I'd accommodate the kids. I double covered one end of it (by the waterer) in case they wanted to sit by the water fountain and gossip, give 'em plenty of shade.

So... with 4 vents on a 4x4 coop... you still think I should add more? Or you think it'll be fine until we move them in a couple weeks to their super fancy place?!?!

Hayabusa... I personally ride an R6.

Small coops need a higher ratio of vent per sq ft than large coops... smaller spaces heat up much faster than large spaces. Even though your ambient temps are pretty nice, a small coop with a painted black roof could turn into a hotbox rather quickly.

It's not just about temp - they also need fresh air to keep the odors from the poop and stuff down

Thankfully our local chicken expert came by and our coop is fine. Better than fine. We're good! Off to swap the roosters for hens and a move to the new place.
