It looks as if our 99% chance of being a hen has turned out to be the 1% chance rooster. My wife and daughter (5yr old) are dead set on keeping him. I'm ok with that decision at the moment because he's yet to show any aggression and I plan on free ranging my chickens eventually. It's just him and another hen. Is this enough for him or should I get another hen or 2? I'm not really in it for the egg production as much as this is a 4-H project and they are to be shown at the local fair in September. I plan on getting another chick or 2 sometime in the future but wasn't wanting to rush it. Does finding out he's a rooster expedite my time table?
Are there any other special things to be aware of raising a rooster?
Thanks in advance!
