The description might be a bit GRAPHIC...We found our Cayuga duck dead in her run yesterday, and I am trying to figure out what happened. My son said that she was fine we he let her and the other duck and drake out yesterday morning. When he went to go put them in for the night she had died. He found her with about six inches of her vent and intestines hanging out the back of her body. It's as though it all got pushed out. I am thinking she had a prolapsed vent, and I feel horrible for not noticing it before it got so bad but I didn't see any of the tell tale signs of a prolapse. Could it be possible for a prolapse to just happen in a split second or had she been suffering for days with it? We have had ducks with prolapses before and were able to correct them. I would feel horrible if I could have saved this duck but didn't pay enough attention to her to notice the prolapse. Can you tell the guilt is setting in?
