Prolapse? Won’t stay in and looks strange

It looks like some kind of sore or growth ? I’m not really sure but I would try soaking her again in lukewarm Epson salt water, just hold her in a small tub of it for at least 20 minutes because you don’t want her to drink any , I use a dish pan on the table and sit down next to it and hold her and talk to her,. (When I soak a duck in my bathtub, I don’t add the Epson) But anyway, then I would put an antibacterial ointment like original Neosporin (without the painrelief ) or you can use a good raw honey) and in the meantime, I will tag more people who may know something more may have seen something like that before.

Thanks for the picture, that is good to know! I’ve attached pictures from this morning. She layed another egg and is in good spirits. I am wondering if it is a prolapse at all? I can’t really see it unless I part her feathers, it isn’t visible when she is walking about. It seems to be yellowish or crusty but the other tissue seems healthy? Not sure what to treat her with to help that.
The yellowish thing just looks like a scab to me that is below her vent.

It's hard to tell with the pictures what is going on. It looks like it could be either vent gleet or a prolapse. Not all prolapses are massive. Does it smell at all? And has she been eating normally?

Either way hydrocortisone ointment would help with any inflammation going on. I would use it 3-4 times a day. The ointment is better than cream because it doesn't wash away as easily and they get more in their system. If you only have the cream, use an ointment like bacatracin second to help seal it on the tissue. Getting the inflammation down is key with a prolapse. Otherwise they will usually push the tissue out again when they poop. Once the inflammation goes down, they won't have as many issues.

Anti-inflammatories can also be given. I give my ducks ibuprofen. I use children's Motrin (5-10 mg/kg) 0.2ml/lb

I have been slightly switching away from bacatracin and triple antibiotic cream, but both can be used with the hydrocortisone too. I have had a lot of good success with silver honey. It is manaka honey with some other ingredients. I have found it heals wounds much faster. To be fair you can use it with the other antibiotic ointments as well.

I would also give her a bath a couple times a day to help keep the area clean. It also helps reverse prolapses when they are minor, so you don't have to push it back in.

You will also want to keep them on an area you can keep clean. This will help reduce any further complications.

Also, it would be beneficial to give her moistened crumble. You want something that is going to be easy on her system to pass.

It would also be beneficial to stop her from laying if you can. I never had success with the dark stopping ducks from laying. I have had better luck making them go broody to stop egg laying. But laying eggs will only prevent the prolapse from healing or irritate what ever injury is going on.

If it is a prolapse, giving extra calcium is also recommended. This helps with proper contractions of the vent muscle.

And lastly, you will want to keep her from any drakes for a while. Even after she heals to allow any internal injuries to heal that may not be visible.

Doesn’t really smell (even though it seems to be turning more yellow). Eating/drinking the same as usual. How is vent gleet treated? I cannot find much information regarding ducks for this

It is treated basically the same way as chickens. Treat them with nyastain and treat the outer wound, plus usually tube feeding. But there is a noticeable smell with it, and they stop eating and drinking. So I doubt that it is what is going on and it is not very common with ducks.

The yellow would be the tissue is likely infected. The tissue should look nice and pink or red.

I would personally treat with an antibiotic. You would need to order it though. I would recommend enrofloxacin. These are the two places you can get it, but it may take a bit to get to you. I am assuming you can't take it to a vet, but that might be your best option.

Everything I mentioned other than the silver honey, you can buy at any grocery or pharmacy. I listed the generic names for the stuff, because it cheaper and does the same thing as the name brand. I would get the hydrocortisone ointment and bacatracin or triple antibiotic ointment today.

Thank you, I went and purchased the ointments. After soaking her today I noticed some of the yellow stuff is loose and coming off with pink tissue underneath

That's a good sign at least the tissue underneath is healthy. It sounded like it was the tissue was infected at first, but that seems more like a scab or necrotic tissue falling off. There is a good chance when that falls off, that little bit of tissue will be able to go back in if it is internal tissue, but hard to say for certain. The only worry will be if it falls off and leaves any open wound, but the ointments should help prevent any new infection if that happens.

Thought the treatment worked, no problems the past 48 hours. Just went to check on her and not looking good anymore :(

She might have slight relapses. Not all prolapses stay in. When my girl had a small one, it took about a month to fully heal. And I had to put the prolapse in 3-4 times a day. Every time she pooped it would come back out. She also had a small calcified cyst that was causing the prolapse. Even my more minor ones occasionally will have relapses ever few days, especially if they are still laying eggs.

From your picture. It looks like there are two things going on. There is exterior tissue around her vent that has been damaged and she has a minor prolapse there. It looks the prolapse tissue is bruised. I would put her in a bath for a bit and then keep up the treatment. There is a good chance the bath will take care of a prolapse that small. You can put the hydrocortisone up her vent as well. I use gloves and just be gentle. Don't force anything.
