Hello all chicken folks,
I am finally living my dream. Out of California, where I worked, and living in Alabama, where I belong. It took a while to accomplish but I couldn't be happier.
I have 3 hens and 1 rooster. The rooster was a surprise but I can't part with him. He's sweet and not too noisy or aggressive. I'm not in city limits and my neighbors couldn't care less. Lucky me.
I look forward to chatting with other like minded chicken folks on this site. My profile picture is one of my dogs because I have a hen who's in love with him. He's quite protective of her as well.

Wow, that's great! I have 3 dogs, all chicken friendly, one 18 year old snake, 1 buff orpington rooster, 1 barred rock hen, 1 americana,(sp?), and a booted bantam I saved from a cat. A mixed bag for sure. I'd like to rescue 3 more hens once I'm settled. I've not been able to find out what the rules/ordinances are in my area regarding chickens. I'm in Talladega County near Stemley Bridge. Any idea where to find that information? In Ca. within city limits you could keep 6 hens. I only have 1 acre but that's more than enough for 6 hens and a roo.

Cool! No, sorry, I don't know where you could find that. Try looking in your state thread, someone there might be able to help https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/find-your-states-thread.270925/

I want to move from California when I retire in two years! How did you pick Alamama?

Your Deed should say what your property is zone is. The County should have information on what is allowed in each zone.

I would contact the Ag Extension office to see if they can help you:
