We had 17 baby chicks arrive 1 week ago. One was dead on arrival, two others subsequently died on days 2 & 3. We had a fair amount of pasty butt. Now that I've lowered the temperature and added apple cider vinegar, that seems to be clearing up.

Question: Do most chick deaths happen within the first few days? Are we out of danger?

We bought them from McMurray and we live on Maui. It's a long trip for me...I'm sure it wasn't easy in a box!

They are so cute, is the dark one smaller ?

I'd still check their butts a couple times a day , you'll see it as they run around if they get plugged again. I put coconut oil on to keep things moving.
, or polysporin if its red.

Always have fresh water and food for them chicks are incredibly hungry.

A small box to hop on to or climb in is entertaining they will peck at it also. I like to give them things to do, a string with a toy hanging in the brooder, a branch to climb on a crumbled paper... keep them busy and have fun!!
